Greetings from Georgia and the 2012 SERWOCN Conference co-chairs Cynthia and Merrill.
The 2012 conference theme is “WOC Nurses Embracing Change with Southern Grace”.
Mark the date, mark your calendars, and join us for an exciting and educational conference in beautiful Savannah, Georgia, September 27 – 30, 2012.
We have many speakers already committed; a sampling of speakers and topics follows.
- Dr John Galloway, renowned surgeon in the southeast for treatment of enteric fistulas, will talk about medical and surgical fistula management.
- Cynthia Timms, EUH WOCN, will facilitate a discussion with people who have had their fistulas closed as they talk about their experience pre and post fistula.
- Paula Toth: difficult pouching situations.
- Ruth Bryant: differential assessment of painful LE wounds.
- Dot Weir: healing the recalcitrant wound.
- Karen Kennedy-Evans: legal issues in end of life ulcers.
- Lea Crestodina will provide an update on diabetes, current best practice that supports wound healing and Myra Varnado will talk about current LEND guidelines.
- A bariatric surgeon and our very own Rose Murphree with report on pre and post op care of the bariatric surgical patient with a focus on ostomy care.
- We have a speaker to educate us on nutrition and evidenced based nutrition for wound healing as well as a speaker to discuss how to promote a seamless transition of care between acute, post acute and home as concerns the WOCN.
- Dorothy Doughty will wrap up, our last speaker, testing the knowledge we have gained over the course of the conference, pulling it all together.
- ConvaTec will again support SERWOCN with a Great Comebacks event.
- Molnlycke has planned an educational offering at a second evening event in a lovely Savannah venue.
You won’t want to miss networking with colleagues, visiting with the vendors in the exhibitor hall, participating and/or viewing the posters, and enjoying the breakfast and dinner meetings. We will provide more information in the March newsletter.
We look forward to seeing all of you at the 2012 conference. For more information please contact either Cynthia or Merrill: conf.chair@serwocn.org.
